Pride U and Quantum University
Medical Diagnosis and Power Wheelchair Electronics: How to Program to the
Individuals Needs and Where to Start

Level: Advanced Programming Course
Duration and Credits: 6 Hours - 0.4 CEUs and 6 CECs

Course Description: Working within Medicare’s current guidelines can be a
challenge in and of itself. The Medicare system has required therapists and
providers to think along the lines of consumers’ diagnoses. Rehab
professionals know not every person fits into the qualifying criteria setup by
Medicare. Regardless, there is a need to abide by the guidelines as closely
as possible to be successful in providing the equipment the consumers need.
This course will provide attendees with a description of different diagnoses
and what limitations and needs these individuals may have. Specific to each
category of diagnoses will be a description of equipment considerations,
including mobility base, power seating and specialty controls and how to
program the electronics to the individuals needs. The participants will be
introduced to what programming options are available for clients and how to
program the equipment to maximize a client’s ability to participate in their
daily activities.
